Runaway winner in Round 1 Keifli Othman is expected to add a second victory in the coming round. Indicating his serious intention to defend his championship lead standing, his team Mayhem-Fast Autoworks Maxxoil has equipped additional aero aids to his Honda Civic K24 to keep his rivals at bay. In close pursuit are Faidzil Alang from team Fast Lap Autoworks, Mark Darwin from team SITTY-DNT and Evotech Racing’s Shazull Hisham who will try to halt Keifli’s progress.
Alif Hamdan from JNA Racing will be hoping that he would be able to bring the fight closer with Round 1 winner Boy Wong from ST Wangan in the Saga Cup (Expert). With both strong contenders Tengku Djan and Farique Hairuman taking sabbatical this year, Boy Wong had an easy run in the first round and was never really under any threat from his category rivals. Another contender to watch is Jay Choong from team SMRT who might take the spoils should the top two contenders falter.
The Super 1500 NA category is building up to be a close racing affair between Team RAB Prodrag’s Mohamad Shahril/Shamir Aizan and Momentom Racing’s Keu Sian Shi. In Round 1 the pair was determined to win and were most of the time close to one another throughout the race. There’s more action to come from these two racers along with some additional reinforcements, a recipe for a cracking race battle!
Seasoned racer Lau Seng Kiat had a disastrous 2016 season but has made amends this season when he won the Proton 1800 category by a wide margin. While en-route to his win he also recorded a new lap time of 2:39 minute which is a hallmark in this category. His rivals has definitely noticed his pace and rivals like Nicholas Aw, Azizi Selam and K.Perajun has promised that they will be much closer to him in Round 2 to overturn his progress.
This season the MSF Saga Cup Rocco (Novice) is categorised as a championship scoring series. With this format the category received 30 entries and presented some very close racing. Johor female racing driver Boey Chai from Ngah Motorsports took the overall honour and showed that she had no problems mixing it with the men. In the race Boey Chai displayed consistency in terms of lap times which assisted her to inch away from her rivals and crossing the finish line in first place. She’ll be contesting in the category again and it’ll be interesting to see whether she can repeat her Round 1 success.
